Exploring the Fascinating World of Reptiles: A Sneak Peek into The Reptile Room Blog

Hi All! Thanks for joining us here on our first post on TRR blog; a place to come to for #advice, #step-by-step #guides, care tips and much, much more!

My name is Sarah and I will be putting up most of the posts here, it's lovely to meet you. A bit about me; I am an #animal obsessed, #neurodivergent mom of three small humans.

The Reptile Room started as my own little sanctuary; a room in our family home where I can have a quiet moment, surrounded by plants, aquariums and #reptiles, to regulate my own needs (and sanity).

That was some years ago now. The Reptile Room has quickly become so much more than my sanctuary; it is my passion, extra income, a safe place for the children's wind down and so much more. I love what I do and am so very excited to share my own experiences, interests, trial-and-errors, and ideas with everyone; ensuring that every #exoticpet owner is prepared, supported and excited about their own journey!

My Journey with Animal Care.

Where to begin? Well, it's fair to say that my sister and I grew up in an "animal friendly" home. That's an understatement; at one point we had around 100 pets in the house after multiple ladies had large litters.

Over the years, we opened our hearts and home to hamsters, gerbils, rats, cats, dogs, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, multiple species of birds, many many chinchillas and even a pygmy hedgehog!

At a young age, I decided to create folders to document the names, breeds and ages of all of our pets; their family trees and quirks of personality. I kept a "chinchilla diary" for years documenting their lives and loves, babies, personality quirks and home expansions.

Perhaps it's not surprising to learn that I studied Animal Care and Management for four years at College. As someone who didn't overly enjoy academics until that point, I felt I had found my tribe, my calling. I loved every moment.

Like many of us, life threw a few curve balls my way; moving from Birmingham in the UK, to London to become an Au pair, then the Republic of Ireland. It was there that I met my future husband, Alan and our life together began. I left my career in Childcare and started my own family. Animal care seemed like a distant memory, something I still loved and was passionate about but simply had no time for.

Fast forward a few years, three lovely children, many house moves, a wedding, a pandemic and so much more and The Reptile Room came into being.
