Dendrobates tinctorious Tumucumaque
 
Tinctorious dart frogs as a species are considered medium sized and one of the easiest to care for.
Tincs do best when kept in pairs, same sex aggression can be very serious if kept in a trio or more. Two males can live happily, two females can live happily, a male and female can live happily but if you introduce another frog to your pair the potential for violence rise significantly as they fight for dominance and breeding rights. Many people mistake fighting for breeding behaviour as you may see one frog on top of the other - this is a display of dominance where the frog on top is trying to eliminate the frog on the bottom.
 
With this in mind we do not sell Tincs in trios or more. Singletons or pairs only unless you can provide proof of separate vivariums.
 
The minimum vivarium requirement for one Tinc is 45 45 45cm, for a pair it’s 45 45 60cm, but bigger is always better.
Dart frogs do not require any supplemental heating or UVB, they do however need a full spectrum LED plant light to provide UVA.
 
Dart frogs thrive in fully bioactive vivariums with live plants and a healthy clean up crew. As they require humidity of upto 100%, this is much easier to achieve with live plants.
All substrate within the vivarium should be covered by a thick layer of leaf litter to both protect the clean up crew from the frogs and to protect the frogs from the substrate - dart frogs do not like getting substrate stuck to them, it agitates their sensitive skin and can lead to stress and illness.
 
As with all dart frogs, the risk of hybridisation is extremely high so you must not keep more than one sub species of Tinctorious in a single tank or they will interbreed and create hybrids.
 
Feed your dart frogs flightless fruit flies every other day, the flies should be dusted with calcium at every feeding, and vitamin A once a month. Check that your supplements are in date and have been stored in the refrigerator for no longer than six months.
