Have you ever wanted the opportunity to raise your own dart frog tadpoles? Or have you been thinking about keeping dart frogs for years but could never justify pet-store prices for one?! 
 
 Well heres your chance!! 
 
The reptile room is offering "tadpole tubs" for as little as 30 euro each, you will receive one tadpole (Ranitomeya variabilis southern) in a grow out tub with water plants and 5 litres of tadpole tea - everything you need to grow out your dart frog at home! For those who dont know "tadpole tea" is spring water that has indian almond leaves and java moss infused, the indian almond leaf releases anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agents into the water to keep the tadpoles healthy, the java moss oxygenates the water.  
 
Care instructions -
The main challenge with raising tadpoles is maintaining water quality; tadpoles struggle to thrive in dirty water. Once a day, using a pipette, remove any poop and left over food from the bottom of the tub and top up with tadpole tea - never use tap water as it contains too many chemicals that are harmful to the tadpoles. 
Feed them once a day. 
We feed ours crushed Spirulina wafers until they develop their legs, then we switch to a high protein late-stage tadpole food.  
 
Once the front legs develop you should reduce the water in the tub by half and tilt it onto its side so that your froglet can climb out of the water when its ready. 
 
We like to keep our froglets in a "nursery tub" for two months before adding them to a fully bioactive vivarium. The nursery tub has springtails, covered by live moss, a couple of hides and a lid with air holes. We feed our froglets calcium + dusted fruit flies every two days.
